Aligned with Fire Pump Standards: Mechanical Spring Starters for Diesel Fire Pump Sets

Fire-fighting

Industry Challenges & Standards

When a fire breaks out, high temperatures, structural damage and power cuts can affect a building’s electrical systems. A diesel fire pump with an electric starter depends on its battery, wiring and control system being in working order after long periods on standby. China’s national standard for fixed fire water supply equipment (Part 5: dual-power fire water supply equipment) includes requirements relating to the emergency starting of fire pump sets, and a mechanical starting method provides a backup that does not depend on electrical power.

The Solution: Spring Starter as a Mechanical Backup

HEXASTART’s mechanical spring starter serves as a backup mechanical starting method for diesel fire pump sets. It does not need batteries, external power or solenoids, and relies on mechanical energy stored by manual winding. If the electric starting system is damaged or power is cut, the operator can release the stored energy with the trip lever to crank the engine.

Key Advantages for Fire Protection Systems

  • Designed Around Fire Pump Requirements: Our fire pump retrofit solutions follow the emergency starting requirements of China’s national standard for dual-power fire water supply equipment.
  • Independent of Electrical Power: Starting does not depend on batteries, mains power or electrical solenoids, so it is not affected by battery self-discharge over long standby periods.
  • Hand-Charged Energy Storage: Starting energy is stored by manual winding, so operators can start the pump during a total electrical failure.
  • Instant Torque Release: The stored energy is released directly to the flywheel ring gear to crank the engine.
  • Upgrade & Retrofit Service: We upgrade the starting systems of existing fire pump sets, covering spring starter installation, commissioning, and after-sales inspection.
